Film Permits in Kenya
All productions filming in Kenya must obtain a permit from the Kenya Film and Classification Board (KFCB). Applications must be submitted through a registered Kenyan film agent, such as We Are Not The Machine Ltd.

Additional Filming Permits in Kenya

Special Pass Permits for Foreign Crew
(Temporary Work Permits)
Processing Time: 2–4 Weeks
All foreign crew working on productions in Kenya must obtain a Special Pass (temporary work permit) via the Kenya Department of Immigration Services. Please see the website link here - https://fns.immigration.go.ke/infopack/passes/specialpass/
Kindly note that applications for special passes for film crew can only be submitted after the film permit is secured.

Visa Requirements for Filming in Kenya
Processing Time: 3–5 Working Days
All foreign crew must apply for an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) via the official government portal - https://evisa.go.ke/.

We advise applying as soon as filming dates are confirmed, as delays can occur within the system. If needed, we can liaise directly with immigration authorities.
Drone Filming in Kenya
Processing Time: 5–10 Working Days
Drone filming in Kenya is regulated by the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA).
We work with licensed drone operators to ensure full compliance.

Important
Only KCAA-registered drone pilots and approved equipment are permitted to operate in Kenya.
Equipment Clearance for Film Productions
Processing Time: Approximately 1 Week
Kenya does not operate under the ATA Carnet system. Instead, productions must secure a customs bond, calculated as a percentage of the equipment’s total value.
